Gibsons RegattaThe Gibsons Regatta was a regular event on the Sea Cavalcade weekend. After a hiatus of a number of years the club revived it, having its first regatta on Saturday July 27th. 2019.

Finn EurosTom started sailing lessons when he was eight years old at the Stony Lake Yacht Club, near his family’s “broken down” (his words) cottage. He began in the SLYC junior sailing program as a way to meet new friends around the lake.

National TeamEarlier this month, Sail Canada announced the members of the 2021-2022 Canadian Sailing Team and Canadian Sailing Development Squad. The 29 sailors were selected based on the Canadian Sailing Team Sport Canada Carding Criteria as well as on their overall performance during the 2019-2020 and 2020-21 seasons.

49er Worlds 2022Nova Scotia will host a 400-strong field of the world’s best sailors from over 35 countries when the World Championships for three Olympic classes, the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17, will be held August 31 - September 5, 2022. Taking place in Canada for the first time in its history, the competition will be held on St. Margaret’s Bay during the six-day event.

Organizers at the co-sponsoring Boston Yacht Club and Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron made the decision last week unable to get clarity about when the U.S./Canadian border might reopen. 

Nik5West Vancouver’s Nikola Girke is the first Canadian sailor to ever compete in three different boat classes at the Olympic Games. After debuting in the 470 (two-handed dinghy) at Athens 2004 with skipper Jen Provan, she switched to the RS:X (windsurfer) in 2005, qualifying for Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Brion Jorgensen Red Jacket Launch 1966Last night, April 7, Rob Mazza presented the remarkable history of the legendary Red Jacket, a Canadian Sailing Icon. Naturally, this was a virtual event with an admission of $5 benefitting the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston.

LOORIt's April and just around the corner - beginning on Friday June 4th actually - is the 2021 Susan Hood Trophy Race (SHTR). Fondly referred to as the 'Coolest Race on the Lake', the Susan Hood is a 75 nautical mile overnight race that kicks off the racing season.
